Eye Surgeries-KIMSE YOK MU- A Turkish Organization Date: 31 Jul, 2015 “Punjab Welfare Trust for the Disabled in association with Kimse Yok Mu plans to carry out twenty five thousand cataract surgeries in the next two years in Punjab especially covering the rural and sub-urban areas. All these surgeries will be free of cost to the visually impaired patients. The cost pertaining to the cataract surgeries will be borne by Kimse Yok Mu.”

Current Activities

INCLUSIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM

Inclusive education means that all students attend and are welcomed by their neighborhood schools in age-appropriate, regular classes and are supported to learn, contribute and participate in all aspects of the life of the school. First project under Inclusive Education System was launched 2009. Inclusive Education System is the most modern and latest system to impart education to special children who are mentally retarded. Since the introduction of this system, the number of beneficiaries has rapidly increased.

OUTREACH PROGRAM

This is yet another program introduced by Punjab Welfare Trust for the welfare of the special children. This program is aimed to provide benefits to such children who are unable to attend schools. Under this program, home based services are provided to the special children and their families. Meetings are held to evolve new and better strategies.

COMMUNITY BASED REHABLITATION PROGRAM FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN

A special Project has been launched by PWTD. The ideology of this Program is to provide expert assistance to intellectually impaired children in the Community through trained Community Resource Persons. These Community Resource Persons are currently working with many children in different areas of Lahore. Monthly monitoring meetings of the Psychologists are held with the parents of special children.

STRENGTHENING THE EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES

World Health Organization (WHO) is launching a program for strengthening the empowerment of women with disabilities in cooperation with Punjab Welfare Trust for the Disabled. Under the Program, training workshops will be held at ten districts of Punjab. The aim of these training workshops is to explain all about disabilities, organizing women with disabilities in groups, registration process for these groups i.e., DPOs formation, budgeting, reporting, opportunities for skill development, networking, access to the funds and entrepreneurship. Training workshops will also include capacity building and introduction to best practices in the organizations located in the above ten districts. In this context, first training workshop has already been held in Multan. The workshop was largely attended and was acclaimed as very useful and beneficial for women with disabilities.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Vocational training is training for a specific career or trade, excluding the professions. Vocational training focuses on practical applications of skills learned, and is generally unconcerned with theory or traditional academic skills. A large part of the education in vocational schools is hands-on training. Under the umbrella of PWTD, different NGOs are engaged in vocational trainings also.
